Participation and eligibility: Participation is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Minors are eligible to participate with a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the release form. A completed entry form, waiver and entry fee must be received no later than April 30st, 2016. Entry fees include rights to fish the tournament, post tournament meal, and other giveaways that might be held at the tournament’s check-in for winners. Tournament begins at sunrise on Saturday, May 7th.
Pre-registration and Pre-tournament rule and welcome video: Each angler must pre-register and pay the $25.00 entry fee by April 30th to avoid a late fee of $5.00. Please register early because there has been a lot of interest from local kayak anglers and this tournament is limited to only a maximum of 50 kayak anglers. A video that will explain the rules, launching spots, and other details of the tournament will be made and posted the night before the tournament in lieu of a captain’s meeting. All anglers will be required to watch this video as CPR token details will be given at the end of this video. No hand-made measuring devices will be allowed for CPR purposes, all measuring devices should be “Bump board” style and measurements should be in inches. In the event that the measuring board does not have blacked out numbers and indicators, these should be marked with a black sharpie to allow for better CPR qualification and comparison.
Safety and Sportsmanship: During competition, all anglers are required to observe all USCG, FWC and local regulations. All kayak anglers are required to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy and conservation.
Permitted Fishing Vessels: Only human powered vessels such as kayaks and paddle boards are allowed. No motors of any kind are permitted. No wade fishing or shore fishing is permitted. No motorized water vehicle can be used to transport your kayak/paddleboard. All vessels are subject to inspection and comparison with photos at the weight-in to verify authenticity of catches.
Permitted Fishing Methods: All fish must be caught on hook and line, using artificial baits only. Live bait is NOT allowed. All fish must be caught from your kayak/paddleboard.
Permitted Fishing Locations: Blue Lagoon and public waterways and lakes of the Miami-Dade area are allowed. All anglers must use public accessible areas on waters accessible to the general public. Fishing in private waters or prohibited/closed areas to fishing will result in disqualification. Keep in mind location and check-in times.
Scoring: The Kayak Fishing Warfare event uses CATCH-PHOTO-RELEASE scoring determined by the length of each fish combined. Peacock bass will be the only scoring fish for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Biggest Largemouth Bass caught during the tournament will have a category as well.
The winner will be determined by the most total inches of a maximum of three (3) peacock bass caught. Anglers are allowed to catch more than three (3) peacock bass and upgrade their fish. Only the longest three (3) fish caught will be scored per angler. You do not have to catch three (3) fish to win. Each angler should use a “bump board” style measuring device with blacked out letters for CPR. No hand-made measuring devices will be accepted during this competition. All measuring devices will be inspected and compared with photos during “weight-in”. CPR token will be sent to each angler by mail, however “special” marking must be placed on the CPR token during tournament day. “Special” marking will be given out during tournament’s welcome video. Without “special” marking placed on CPR token fish will not be counted towards total inches/scores. The first photo of each angler should be of your rigged boat at launch area and CPR token and measuring device clearly visible. Fish must be photographed IN the kayak/paddleboard, ON the measuring device, CLEARLY showing the length of the fish, with the CPR token clearly visible. More than one photo of a fish is highly recommended. Total length (TL) of a fish for this tournament is measured from the forward-most point of the head with the fish’s mouth closed, to the natural un-pinched top of the tail while the fish is lying on its side. In the event of a tie, the longest peacock bass will determine the winner. In the event that there is a tie after the peacock bass measurement, the winner will be determined by the earliest recorded check-in time of the tied anglers.
Check-in: Check-in will begin at 1 PM Saturday May 7th at (Location to be determined). All anglers must check in with their photos (Point and shoot cameras are preferred but cell phones are allowed) and CPR tokens by 3 PM and be in line to be eligible for fishing tournament prizes. All submissions should be texted at a given phone number (Details should be explained during welcome video) to allow for easy scoring. Digital Photography: Anglers may only use digital cameras for recording of fish. Anglers must show tournament organizer at the “check-in” for scoring. In scoring of photos, the angler’s kayak/canoe must be displayed in all submitted photos.
