Lately we have been playing around with the small rods, finesse, fishing with artificials. We've been hitting the super early or really late, middle to end of outgoing tides at most of the local Palm Beach county bridges, but these tactics will work at any bridge you choose to fish in Florida. We are fishing 7 foot light action spinning rods with 3000 size reels and 10lb braid, tied to 30lb fluorocarbon. I use Diamond or Yozuri because it's very hard leader and stays extremely straight when stretched out.
Our go-to lures have been any of the smaller Egret Baits Vudu Shrimp in any color (rootbeer is the best!) and the DOA terror-eyze in any color (rootbeer is best again!). The most productive way to fish 'em is to cast up current and lightly bounce them on the bottom all the way back under the bridge. I caught one last night twitching a Vudu shrimp on the surface and got crushed. Same technique goes for the terror-eyze. The best part of fishing small lures is that the fish really don't hesitate to eat, and honestly it makes it a little more fun with the small tackle. So when you don't feel like playing with the big toys you can still go catch and have fun with the small toys.
